Janis Baumanis target victory at home race in Riga

#YELLOWSQUAD DRIVER BAUMANIS TARGETS VICTORY AT HOME IN RIGA

Riga, Latvia. August 31 2022

Former FIA European Rallycross Champion and previous winner of his home round of the Euro RX series at Riga in Latvia, Janis Baumanis, heads to his home round of Euro RX1 this weekend (September 3-4) targeting a repeat of his dream victory last season.

Baumanis’ 2022 campaign turned around at the Norwegian round of the campaign in mid-August, where the Peugeot 208 WRX driver set front-running pace and finished on the podium.

The best fans!

The Norwegian result came following difficult events in Hungary and Sweden, but, thanks to consistent points scoring in the opening three rounds of the campaign, Baumanis lies second in the Euro RX1 standings, within a competitive 2022 field.

Now, he is targeting a repeat of his victory from last year at the Bikerneiki Circuit in Riga this weekend. #YellowSquad and Baumanis have already got laps of the 12-corner, 1.295km Latvian track under their belt this year with the 208 WRX, in a pre-season test, and given the car’s previous form at the circuit along with Baumanis’ pace, and home support which gives a boost to the Latvian star, the team is excited to get racing under way this weekend.

The action takes place on Saturday and Sunday, all broadcast on the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s RX+ service, check out the World RX website for details.

“This is obviously the most wonderful time of the year for me, with all of the things I am involved with before and after the weekend.

For sure there is more responsibilities for me than any other race, but also more support too.

I’m glad the weather will not be as hot as it has been in Riga recently, that it is a bit cooler will be better for the drivers and the spectators.

Last year I had a pretty good result on Sunday so I want to do the same again this season. Some things have been changed on the track, which should make it even better and I can’t wait for the city parade on Thursday evening.”

“We felt like our season properly got underway in Norway, where Janis drove very well and things started to go our way, unlike in Hungary and Sweden.

Janis felt comfortable in the car in Hell and we had a positive pre-season test in Riga earlier this year, so hopefully we can hit the ground running this weekend.

As a team we have already raced in Riga this year in the RallyX series with Yury Belevskiy, so hopefully the knowledge we have from that will help us too, along with the huge home support that Janis has at his home track.”
