Baumanis and #YellowSquad embark on ‘Magic Weekend’ in Sweden

Höljes, Sweden June 30 2022

European Rallycross Championship event-winner Janis Baumanis and the #YellowSquad team embark on the ‘Magic Weekend’ at Holjes in Sweden this week, to race at one of the biggest rallycross events in the world.

Known as the ‘Magic Weekend’ by fans and teams alike, the Holjes event returns to its traditional early-July date for 2022, where Latvian star Janis Baumanis will take on some of the best drivers in the business with the #YellowSquad Peugeot 208 WRX.

Returning to Euro RX with the Swedish team for 2022, former Euro RX3 Champion Baumanis, who finished third overall in the Euro RX1 standings last year, currently lies fourth in the standings after the season-opener in Hungary.

But, while there were many new elements for driver and team at the Nyirad Circuit in May, where Baumanis was among the fastest drivers on track, now, with prior track experience of Holjes in his pocket from multiple previous appearances at the venue and a pre-season test at the circuit under the guidance of former World Rallycross Champion Timmy Hansen, the Latvian 29-year-old lines up in arguably the strongest Euro RX entry in a decade.

Holjes is known for its fantastic circuit layout, with big kerbs, cambered corners and large jumps, making for incredible action on track, while the atmosphere off track is all part of the legendary weekend.

Racing will take place over Saturday (July 2nd) and Sunday (July 3rd), with the action broadcast on the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s RX+ service. Check out the World RX website for details.

“Finally the Magic Weekend is here, and if there was just a couple more World RX drivers doing the race, it wouldn’t be like the European Championship but a World Championship event. A lot of top drivers are entered this weekend, so it will be very interesting to see how we can compete. For sure Johan Kristoffersson, Anton Marklund and many other drivers are very quick at this track where they have done a lot of kilometres.
But, I have also tested the car there this year, in April, and had a good feeling. Now I know the car a bit better too and I feel ready. I can’t wait for Saturday when we head onto the track to go racing.”

“This is a home event for us as a team, and Janis has shown great pace at Holjes in previous years, so we have reason to be excited heading into the weekend.

It’s a special race for rallycross, to be at Holjes on the first weekend in the July, and I believe that gives everyone a bit of extra motivation. We had a good pre-season test at the circuit and Janis worked well with the team in Hungary, so of course we hope to be fighting for the podium again this weekend.”
