#YellowSquad and Baumanis head to Hungary for Euro RX1 opener

#YellowSquad and former European Rallycross Champion Janis Baumanis embark on the start of a new adventure this weekend, at the opening round of the FIA Euro RX season at Nyirad in Hungary (May 21 – 22).

The classic rallycross venue returns to the international rallycross schedule for the first time since 2013, where Hansen Motorsport driver Timmy Hansen secured a maiden top-flight rallycross victory.

Now, driving for the squad created by Team Principal Kevin Hansen, and run within the wider Hansen Motorsport family, 2015 Euro RX3 Champion Janis Baumanis will drive in #YellowSquad’s first Euro RX1 start.

The 29-year-old Latvian star, who is twice a World RX podium-finisher, is embarking on a full six-round Euro RX1 season in the Peugeot 208 and is targeting top results in the highly-competitive field to build a title-challenge.

To prepare for the campaign, Baumanis has tested in Sweden and Latvia, along with revealing his stunning new livery in his country’s capital city Riga, but this weekend will mark the first time the Latvian has raced at the historic Nyirad venue.

The action will be broadcast on the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s RX+ service, check out the World RX website for details.

“There is a lot of excitement building for me in anticipation of my first race with the team, especially as this is the first time I have raced at the track in Hungary.
It is new for the team too, although of course Kenneth Hansen and Timmy Hansen have some experience there with Hansen Motorsport from a few years ago, things are a bit different now and there is a lot new for #YellowSquad.
I have found some videos to watch online, the track looks very nice, very fast with a lot of gravel. I think it can be good for us and a lot of fun. The main thing is to enjoy everything both on and off track, and I know the team is working as hard as possible to ensure we can achieve good results.”

“Finally it is time to start the Euro RX1 season. It is a new adventure for the team to run an RX1 car at this level and we are all very excited for it. Pre-season testing has gone really well and Janis is already looking both comfortable and fast in the 208. The level in Euro RX1 is extremely high, so it will be a big battle all weekend, but hopefully we can start the year with a strong result.”
