Baumanis and #Yellowsquad aim to conclude 2022 campaign on a high

The sixth and final round of the 2022 FIA European Rallycross Championship for RX1 will be held at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium this weekend (October 8-9), where Swedish team #YellowSquadand Latvian driver Janis Baumanis are planning to end the season on a high.

Racing the Peugeot 208 WRX with the team for the first time in 2022, Baumanis has regularly challenged the front of the order, but has also run into misfortune through the campaign. In the most recent two events, in Latvia and Portugal, he has set pace capable of fighting for victory, with the Montalegre track in Portugal eventual culminating in his second podium appearance of the season.

Now, having finished both third and second in the final this year, and currently lying second in the Euro RX1 standings, #YellowSquad and Baumanis are targeting a first victory together to finish the year in style at the most famous venue in the series.

Baumanis has raced at the Spa rallycross circuit twice before, finishing fifth in World RX in 2019 and third in Euro RX last year, while the circuit has been revised for 2022, to increase the amount of loose surface in the final corner, to improve the possibility to overtake.

The action takes place on Saturday and Sunday, all broadcast on the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s RX+ service, check out the World RX website for details.

“It’s very nice that the final round of the season is in Belgium, at Spa. It has always been remarkable to go there as it’s a very iconic track and the atmosphere in Belgium is always great.

We’ve had some good pace this year, but some unlucky moments on the track too, the rain in heat three in Sweden for example that changed our weekend.

I know the car a lot better now that I have done some test days and five races, and there is one more chance to get the win we all want.

I know the track well and I’ve been driving there all the years when the race has been happening. I’m feeling more confident in the car than ever, so I’m looking forward to the fight for the final victory of the season.”

“It’s been a busy summer with Euro RX1, with ups and downs in terms of results, but in the recent races the pace has been very good.

We going to work as hard as possible as a team to tie the weekend together at Spa to be able to win the last race of the year – heading into the off season in the best way.

It might not be possible to win the championship anymore, but we’re also going to be pushing hard to help Janis finish second in the points and the best way to do that would be to again stand on the podium, ideally on the top step!”
